Belonging, Rebuilt

Truxtun was the old Army lacrosse locker room at West Point — the place you could let your guard down. It was family. That belonging is what too many veterans lose leaving service, and what we exist to give back.

  • Truxtun Foundation grew out of needs witnessed while building the broader Truxtun community: How can more veterans access meaningful support during transition? What helps them integrate consequential experiences into the lives they build afterward? How can community continue beyond a single intervention? What can research and education teach us about veteran transition and human flourishing?

    The Truxtun Foundation was created to pursue those questions over the long term, focusing on community, leadership development, education, research, and policy, beginning with the Truxtun Fellowship at Harvard.

    The Foundation shares its origins with Truxtun LLC, a separate organization that operates its own programming, including retreats, in jurisdictions where that programming is legal. Truxtun Foundation does not operate, sponsor, facilitate, or fund those retreats.

    Its story begins with the broader Truxtun community. Its future is about building an enduring institution for veterans navigating what comes next.

  • Harvard brings together veterans preparing to lead across law, public policy, business, medicine, education, science, technology, and other fields.

    It is also an unusually demanding environment in which veterans are navigating two transitions at once: away from military service and toward new communities, identities, and forms of leadership.

    That makes Harvard a strong place to test, learn from, and refine the Truxtun Fellowship model before taking it further.

    Harvard is where Truxtun begins, not where it ends.

  • Truxtun Foundation empowers veterans to intentionally navigate the transition from military service to lives of purpose, belonging, and leadership.

  • A culture in which transition from military service is treated not simply as an exit, but as an intentional passage toward renewed purpose, belonging, leadership, and continued service.

COMMUNITY IS THE MODEL

Transition can disrupt some of the strongest forms of community people experience in their lives. Truxtun therefore treats relationships and belonging not as side effects of programming, but as central to the work itself.

Intimate, off-the-record dinners built around shared meals and genuine conversation among Fellows and exceptional guests.

THE TRUXTUN TABLE

Outdoor, service, and cultural experiences that take Fellows outside the classroom and deepen relationships.

TRUXTUN IN THE FIELD

Occasional opportunities to bring Fellows together with a broader community of veterans, leaders, partners, and friends of Truxtun.

COMMUNITY GATHERINGS

As Truxtun grows, the community will extend across cohorts, universities, professions, and generations.

Establish Truxtun Fellowships across leading universities and build an enduring national community of veterans pursuing purposeful leadership and consequential work across public service, business, law, medicine, science, academia, entrepreneurship, and beyond.

YEAR 1

Prove the Model

Launch the inaugural Truxtun Fellowship at Harvard.

Build the cohort experience, test programming, establish the Truxtun Table and Truxtun in the Field.

 Learn directly from the inaugural Fellows.

YEARs 2-5

Refine and Expand

Improve the Fellowship based on what we learn at Harvard.

Deepen relationships with university partners, veteran organizations, researchers, leaders, and supporters.

Bring the Fellowship to a small number of additional leading universities while refining the model and connecting Fellows across institutions and cohorts.

LONG-TERM

Build the Institution

Build an enduring national Truxtun community supporting veteran transition, belonging, purposeful leadership, mentorship, research, policy, and continued service across institutions and generations.
